About Salton Sea

The Salton Sea is the leftover inland sea at the south end of the valley, past Mecca and the date groves, not a swimming brochure. It smells like itself. Birders still come in winter. Snowbirds still plug into state recreation sites and the east-valley parks that will take a monthly. Bombay Beach is a photo stop, not a marina you plan a ski boat around. An RV is how you stay because shade and a kitchen are the only comfortable way to be here in the shoulder months — and in summer you should not. Delivery is down valley, often through Indio and the City of Coachella. This is not festival camping and it is not Joshua Tree. If you want water you can actually ski, you are on the wrong desert.
